The Green Grotto Caves are said to have provided shelter for Jamaica’s first inhabitants, the Taino Indians and the Arawak Indians.

The Jamaican Arawaks Indians were skilled artisans who left their paintings on the walls of many island caves. They were superb stone-workers and their implements were particularly well shaped, smooth and beautifully finished.

Used for numerous reason through out history, such as a hideout by the Spanish during the takeover of the island by the English, the slaves used these Caves to hide from they evil masters and smuggling, running arms to Cuba.

These Caves, saved by the Government of Jamaica, are well cared for and have awards to prove it!

From its early days of discovery, back in the days of Christopher Columbus who landed just over 3 km from these caves, the Cave is now living again, you will see the start of new stalagmites, measure how long it takes to form!

The inner world of Jamaica is truly beautiful, you will see the most amazing lake, 37 metres down, totally transparent and with a reflection you may never have seen before. By the way, Bats live in this Cave, just to let you know.
